Persistence and the Perfect Travel Mug

A treasure hunt years in the making came to an end with the arrival of a non-descript cardboard box from some far away state. Inside, wrapped in protective paper, rested three very special coffee cups.

A year and a half ago on this very blog, I wrote about Leah’s hunt for the world’s best travel mug. I explained how she dragged me to every store she could and examined every possible creation, how she bought a whole slew only to be disappointed in the end. What she wanted was a mug that could sit in her cup holder without tipping over, a mug that had a handle for her tiny hands to grip and and most importantly, a mug with a ceramic interior. A bunch of mugs fit the first two criteria but the third was near impossible. She only found plastics or stainless steel and she didn’t like how either distorted the flavor of her favorite brew.

She persisted. And persisted some more. And it finally paid off.

On her umpteenth Google search, she found thecoffeemugstore.com. But the place generally sells its wares in bulk and the last thing we needed was 50 coffee mugs. Leah called and a nice guy named Lane agreed to ship us three of these prized cups for $15 each. That’s kinda pricy for your standard coffee holding apparatus, but after how long she has looked for this thing, it was totally worth it. No longer will her picky palate have to contend with tinny-tasting coffee.

She now has a ceramic on the inside, pink painted stainless steel on the outside beauty. Leah even ordered a black one for me.
